Pride Month at Dock & Bay
We hope you’re still celebrating Pride Month, because we are!
Here at Dock & Bay, we celebrate love and inclusivity for all, this month, and every other month throughout the year. We feel super lucky to work within such a diverse team, where everyone is encouraged to be their most authentic selves.
We’re proud supporters of the LGBTQIA+ community, and you join us in support by taking a quick dry rainbow towel with you on your travels!
Some history for you all…. The first Gay Pride march took place in London on the 1st of July 1972, inspired by the 1969 Stonewall Riots in New York. These marches were triggered by police harassment at the Stonewall Inn (a gay bar in New York).
We’ve donated £500 to the Stonewall Charity and their amazing work. You can read more about the cause here: https://www.stonewall.org.uk/.
We’ve also had some very special guest speakers at D&B HQ to chat with us all about their journey as part of the LGBTQIA+ community.
First up, we had Kardi Blac (She/Her), an awesome makeup artist who looks absolutely dazzling in our hair wrap.
Here she is dishing out fabulousness at D&BHQ.
Courtesy of Kardi, we learned all about makeup, being a drag queen, her experiences and what Pride means to her. You can check her out on our Instagram here.
We also learned how to better support the community, both as a brand and as people. It was super educational and we want to thank her for chatting with us!
Following the flawless Kardi, we had a chat with Emmanuelle Cuccolo (She/Her).
Emmanuelle is a LGBTQIA+ / Gender Inclusive Language Advisor and lecturer at the University of Birmingham, who specialises in Sexuality and Gender Studies.
She spoke with and educated us on the history of the LGBTQIA+ community, who her favourite historical members are and all of the struggles which the community has gone through.
The D&B team had a long discussion about various topics, asked questions and debated over certain things. We want to thank Emmanuelle for encouraging us to have these conversations more, not just during Pride month.
Finally, to top off a busy Pride Month, the Dock & Bay crew will be off on a night out to joyously celebrate the community.
Love,
Team D&B x
